Carl Zeiss founded his workshop for precision mechanics and optical instruments in Jena in 1846. Later, he met Ernst Abbe, who became his partner in 1876. Together, they laid the foundation for the development of optical instruments and contributed significantly to the physics of optics. Today, the ZEISS Group is a globally operating foundation-owned company with over 46,000 employees in 50 countries. Over the years, more than 50 ZEISS camera lenses have been sent into space, and 30 Nobel laureates have used ZEISS systems in their research. Additionally, three technical Oscars have been awarded to films created with ZEISS optics. ZEISS remains a strongly innovation-driven company, reinvesting 15% of its annual revenue into new research and development initiatives with various partners worldwide.
Zeiss has equipped SmiLe’s laboratories with the following instruments: three ZEISS Primovert 2 microscopes with cameras and GFP fluorescence, as well as two external cameras, including software for two older microscopes.
