Commercialization of ATMP
Commercialization of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) in southern Sweden – a pre- study.
About the project
The complexity of ATMP is greater than that of traditional drugs and therefore requires close collaboration between academic research, hospitals for manufacturing of ATMPs and patients for clinical trials as well as the industry to be able to scale up production to reach more patients. Regionally, several concrete steps have been taken to facilitate the transition from discovery in research laboratories to new treatment therapies for patients. An important piece of the puzzle is the commercialization of these treatment therapies, which is the subject of this feasibility study.
Purpose
To work together with key stakeholders to develop a concept for how incubator activities within the ATMP area can be conducted in southern Sweden.
Short description
In the last decade, scientific breakthroughs have been made in cell- and gene therapy that has enabled the development of new treatments called Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP). Regionally, intensive work is underway to gather expertise in the area, where Lund University is one of the leading institutions of higher education in terms of research in the area and at Skåne university hospital in Lund ATMP operations are carried out. To contribute to the utilization of the research and development carried out regionally as well as strengthening the research and innovation capacity for start-up companies within the ATMP area, SmiLe and Region Skåne, will carry out a pre-study, where the goal is to work together with key stakeholders to develop a concept for how incubator activities within the ATMP area can be conducted in southern Sweden. The preliminary study includes in addition to project management, four analyses: environment, stakeholders, target group, Agenda 2030 and an activity with a focus on concept development and planning of testing and development of the concept.
